PUBLIC & PRIVATE PENSIONS

With interest rates at historic lows, many public and private pensions have found themselves in a challenging position. As interest rates are poised to rise, now is the time to reassess the risk you are taking in your fund. Traditional backward-looking metrics may be underestimating the potential risk your portfolio faces should we enter a rising rate environment. By collaborating with SVIC, you will receive an objective, unbiased look at the risk associated with your current strategy and/or positions. We will also interview current managers and provide analysis on the fees and returns that should be expected in the current market environment.

Investment Policy Statement Development and Updates

This service is for those looking to make amendments to their existing policy or establish a new customized policy for their organization.

Investment Policy Statements are written guidelines that create a source of accountability for all internal and external parties involved in the investment process. A well-constructed Investment Policy Statement is not only a best practice; it is the roadmap to meeting your investment objectives. Our specialists will work with you to develop an IPS that is customized to your unique needs, and most importantly, is written in a way that is implementable and accountable. An IPS should be tailored to your organizations needs and capabilities. A boiler plate IPS can potentially create more regulatory and legal challenges than not having a policy at all.

Fiduciary Audit

For those looking for an objective and independent audit of their current investments, fees, and strategy.

As Fiduciaries, you are responsible for overseeing the overall investment strategy: the fees associated with the investments, selection of the asset allocation structure, the development of the details of the strategy, the implementation of the strategy with appropriate Investment Managers and other service providers, and monitoring the strategy on an ongoing basis. At a minimum, there should be annual audit and reporting of this process to identify any gaps in the plan and or processes. A fiduciary audit is a formalized and documented method of ensuring your responsibilities and that you are on track to meet goals. Hiring an external firm to assist you in this process gives you an unbiased and objective snapshot of your fund.

SVIC will do a deep dive into your plan and provide you with the necessary data to ensure your plan is consistent with your IPS. We can work with you on an annual basis or as an ongoing external partner to your investment committee.

Highlights Include:

  • Education and documentation on the risks, rewards, fees, and compliance associated with the current portfolio
